(Kuching, Wednesday): Chan Seng Khai should explain how BN can bring development to Kuching when allocations for Sungai Sarawak River Management and Flood Mitigation projects are not fully utilized.

Under the Eigth Malaysia Plan, it was approved that RM 691 million be allocated for River Management and Environmental Control of Sungai Sarawak and another RM 167 million is allocated for Sungai Sarawak Flood.

These figures are nice to look on the paper but the sad thing is that from RM 691 million be allocated for River Management and Environmental Control of Sungai Sarawak, only RM1.15 million is used.

As for the Sungai Sarawak Flood Mitigation Projects, only RM 1.951 million is utilized out of an allocation of RM 166.9 million.

Why only 0.3% of the total allocation approved under the 8MP utilized when it is supposed that all the allocation should be fully utilized by the government?

What development is Chan Seng Khai talking about when federal allocations are not even fully utilized?

Chan Seng Khai is the Yang Di-Pertua oleh Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan. During the Chinese New Year in 2003 and 2004, Kuching was flooded, affecting thousands of household.  Had the projects approved under the RMK8 been carried out, such flood could have been avoided and many property could have been saved.

Unless and until Chan Seng Khai manage to provide a full and accountable explanation on this, there shall be no reason for the rakyat Batu Lintang to support Chan Seng Khai.
